VOCABULARY  WORDS

      TEST ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30

1.     familiar – known from being seen often

EXAMPLE: I think we’re lost because this street doesn’t look familiar to me.

2.     blurry –  unclear or smeared

My glasses are all foggy, and everything is extremely blurry.

3.     vacant –  empty

We were excited that the hotel had a vacant room for our family.

4.    jerky –  moving in sudden, uneven, or awkward ways

When steering the go cart, it was very jerky but I certainly didn’t mind.

5.    applause –  clapping meant to show appreciation

As the firemen walked away from the smoldering building, they could hear the loud applause from the enormous crowd.

6.    blasted –  made a sudden, loud sound

We nearly jumped a mile high when the loud music suddenly blasted in our ears.

7.     rude –  impolite or having bad manners

I was upset when the rude owner of the store didn’t even thank me for my purchases.

8.    rickety –  shaky or likely to fall apart

My heart pounded out of my chest as I cautiously crossed the rickety bridge.
